Some Over due posts!

The busy semester has made my little life hugely chaotic, as a result my beautiful blog has suffered! Deepest apologies but time to show what my busy life has been doing. Basically the pen tool and I have been having many romantic dates together by candle light. this is the sort of visual chemistry we have made!!

Unfortunately this is not all of them. My computer is going at the pace of a snail and repeatably stops responding to illustrator.

let's do some more homework, Time to reder sketches!

Hi there,
In my fashion communication class, I have been drawing flat sketches and now we are finally rendering them on photo shop! So exciting. Any way my homework task this time was to render on photo shop one of these flat sketches. I chose a cute little jumpsuit and used my fabric pattern.

As you can see, I have not yet mastered rendering but I think it is okay for a first timer. I need to perfect my warp technique.

I present to you the fabric design of the century... Spiders and their webs!

Ladies and Gentleman I bring you my edited final fabric pattern! I am pretty happy with the final product, it repeats well and looks very pretty. I found it is not hard to work with nature, it is already so wonderful and gives you so much to work with. With my final fabric design I tried to focus on web detail and transform the spider's menace to society and dangerous character into a creature of great beauty. I think the pastel colours help to convey this.

Digital assignment - Let's have some fun on photoshop

with my primary research, I decided to have a little play with what I had on photoshop. See how webs and spiders would go as brushes, use different blending options, trying repeats and much more. These are the things i came up with

DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT - SPIDERS AND THIER WEBBS

My research - Over the past few weeks I have researched my idea for my digital assignment. I have decided to make a fabric design inspired by spiders and their webs. I live in Queenspark (apart of centennial parklands) which means my whole neighbourhood is surrounded by nature's beautiful flora and fauna. I have kept my eye open and found what caught my eye was the detail of spiders and their webs. They surround my house as if they are protecting me. I really like when i look outside my window I can always see a web, breaking the view in to little shapes and pieces and the sun's shine on each strand.

REPEATS!

This stripe repeat was not hard to create.
first I made each coloured stripe with the selection tool and paint bucket tool.
Then I selected (with the marquee tool) a rectangle across  the colours and then went into edit, define pattern open a new blank document, go to layers, fill new layer, pattern and then click the striped option. then your page should look something similar to the picture above!

Symmetrical Repeat:
how to make use an image or paint brush to create your beginning image. once you are happy with it duplicate the layer and go to edit, transform and flip horizontal. Connect this layer to the right hand side of the previous layer  and keep adding accordingly horizontally or vertically. once you are happy, use the marquee tool to select an symmetrical area and define the pattern open a new page and use that pattern (explained above).  Presto!

Here are some other repeats I did in class. These ones are a lot harder to perfect so my examples are not quite complete

This was a fun exercise and I found it pretty easy to complete, very good step by step instructions, although I did have trouble  to begin with, deleting and making paths. I really need to further look into this as it is one of the main tools used in Photoshop. Everything else was pretty good however I'm still learning to perfect it all.

Scanning

Before scaning the images, the scanner needs to be set to 300 dpi.

to do this (with a epson stylus NX430) you must:

step one go to the start menu, highlight all programs and highlight the epson scanning option. (make sure it is not the epson settings)

here is an image below showing the first step.

Step two Once you have clicked the epson scan option, a window will pop up giving you the options of Scan, Customise, Help and close. press the Customise option and it will bring you to this window displayed below.

Step Three  that new window as you can see has a drop menu, click that and it shows you all the options to change the dpi. click 300 and your now on your way to scanning!

Scanning is easy, all you have to do is place what ever you want to scan on the scanner. close the lid and press the scan to pc option.

There are 3 main levels of resolution used.

Web 72 dpi: The web only needs images that are 72dpi, usually web devices such as email, facebook and blogs cannot upload any file bigger. If you are uploading any photos or images to the internet, make sure they are jpegs, giffs or pngs and have a dpi that does not exceed 90dpi.

Print 150 dpi: Images that are going to be printed out should not be lower than 150dpi as the image will be too pixelated and therefore the image will look blurry or blocky which often provides a bad presentation.

Presentation for fashion (industry standard) 300dpi: At a professional level, the dpi needs to be set to 300 similar reasoning to printing. It is the industry standard that every image has no detction of pixelation, these images are used a virety of scales such as; on billbords, magazines, look books, posters etc. With the bigger dpi it allows the image to look clear, crisp and professional on all scales seen by the masses.
